Time’s 60 Years of Heroes 2006-11-07

To Grace the front cover of ‘Time magazine’ is regarded as a real accolade, a sign that you have made it.

The likes of Nelson Mandela, Mikhail Gorbachev and ‘The Beatles’ have taken pride of place in the journal’s hall of fame, epitomising all that is great and innovative in society. The cover stars’ names read like a Who’s Who of the world stage, providing a social commentary of our time.

But this week, as ‘Time magazine’ publishes a special issue to celebrate six decades of the magazine’s European edition, entitled ‘60 Years of Heroes’, it has thrown up some unlikely candidates for the title of hero.

There were 19 awards presented at the refurbished Roundhouse venue in London’s Camden borough, 13 of which were voted for by music fans via www.dma06.com and six of which were decided by a panel of experts.

Clean Beaches 2006-09-18

The Blue Flag has become the definitive international measure of beaches since it began back in 1987.

It is regarded as a highly effective monitoring system, because it measures everything from accessibility for disabled visitors through to the number of bins provided and litter left on the beach.

Water must be clean enough to have achieved the highest standard defined by European Law.

Award winners can fly a Blue Flag during the bathing season and must display their water quality and the facilities they provide on easy to read beach signs. (more…)

Biggest Private Company 2006-06-30

Grampian Country Foods‘ (‘GCFG’) has been named as Scotland’s biggest private company for the fourth year in a row.

The Aberdeen-based company was placed 13th on ‘The Sunday TimesKPMG Top Track 100, which ranks UK firms by sales.

Annual sales of 1 850 million GBP saw the firm edge ahead of Glasgow-based car dealer ‘Arnold Clark‘, which was 15th in the UK.
