Sinking Tower Opens Then Closes Again! 2004-09-08Posted by clype in Glasgow, Intolerance, Scotland.
The tower at ‘The Glasgow Science Centre’ has been shut down for maintenance two weeks after re-opening to the public.
But the closure is not linked to the mechanical problem that caused it to be out of use for almost two-and-a-half years, according to management.
The 116 m tower on the banks of the River Clyde in Govan is expected to be open again by the weekend.
The 10 million GBP rotating tower had to be closed in 2002-02 — just months after the centre opened to the public.
It was found to have sunk because of damage to two bearings in the rotating base mechanism.
